We are an environmental charity who campaign directly to the public. We are best known for our Keep Britain Tidy campaign, which has been running for over fifty years. We try to persuade you to stop dropping litter and put it in a bin.
You may remember our campaigns from the 1970s and early 1980s using celebrities such as Abba and comedy duo Morecambe and Wise. And in the 1990s popstars such as Atomic Kitten, soap stars from Brookside and Coronation Street and football players Emile Heskey and Michael Owen supported our anti-litter messages.
More recent campaigns have included a Smoking Litter campaign to encourage smokers to dispose of their cigarette ends responsibly and a Food Litter campaign over the Christmas period calling on revellers to bin their takeaway rubbish after a night out. In our Rats campaign we highlighted the link between dropped food and an increase in the number of rats on our streets.
Recently, award winning television drama 'Life on Mars', took a nostalgic journey back to the early 1970's where the Keep Britain Tidy poster of Marc Bolan (pictured) featured prominantly.

We also campaign on issues such as graffiti, fly posting, abandoned vehicles and gum dropping. We are partly grant funded by the Government through the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs so we are also asked to campaign on or develop ways of tackling problems such as dog fouling, fly-tipping and nuisance noise.
ENCAMS is our company name but we also run a number of programmes through partners such as Blue Flag,Quality Coast Award, Eco- Schools and Cleaner Safer Greener Network.
We also work very closely with the Home Office and The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to address these issues and other types of anti-social behaviour.
