The Cleaner Safer Greener Neighbourhood Kitemark

Cleaner Safer greener Neighbourhood Logo Offers Housing providers a structure to drive improvements in specified neighbourhoods and also recognises their Cleaner Safer Greener achievements at a national level.

Benefits of the Cleaner Safer Greener Kitemark

• It demonstrates quality of service to stakeholders, partners and neighbourhoods
• It provides a structure in which you achieve recognition for working towards
improving the quality of neighbourhoods
• It builds credibility and opportunities for funding support
• It promotes innovation and good practice amongst peers
• It gives you an opportunity to review current practices against a recognised
benchmark
• It helps you identify and implement improvement actions
• It supports and strengthens tenant and resident engagement

The Kitemark has 3 stages:
Entry for a partner neighbourhood can be made at any level.
Here are the descriptions, to help you gauge which level to apply for…

Initiator: The housing provider understands the challenge and has a desire to improve the specified neighbourhood. They are committed to working with partners and the community in order to make a difference to the standards within the neighbourhood.

Performer: The housing provider is working with a range of partners, and the community, to achieve identified Cleaner, Safer and Greener goals. They can evidence improvements and are making a visible difference to the Quality of Life within the specified neighbourhood.

Exemplar: The specified neighbourhood is a place where the housing provider and its partners are achieving the residents' vision for a cleaner, safer and greener environment which is respected by those who live, work and visit the neighbourhood. A high performing partnership exists which seeks to sustain and continually improve the Quality of Life within the neighbourhood through a demonstrable track record of innovation and best practice.

The Cleaner Safer Greener Kitemark is the first of its kind in the country and will be an
effective partnership tool for Housing providers who want to lead the way in
environmental issues and build better neighbourhoods for their tenants and residents.

How to Apply for the Kitemark

1. Registration
Complete and submit an application form identifying the neighbourhood to be
assessed and at what level.

2. 'How To' Workshop
Organised by ENCAMS, this workshop is non-compulsory but highly recommended as
it will provide practical advice and support for organisations applying for any level of
the Kitemark. Please visit www.encams.org/kitemark

3. Completing the Workbook
Once the registration document is received, ENCAMS will send you the relevant
workbook. The scope of evidence and information required is dependant upon the
level being applied for.

4. Submitting the Workbook
All applications must be submitted via email to csgkitemark@encams.org for
assessment. A completion date will be specified.

5. Assessment Process
ENCAMS will allocate a Kitemark Assessor/s from a pool of specially selected housing
professionals trained, qualified and experienced in assessing against the Kitemark
standards. The Assessor/s will desktop assess the application, co-ordinate a site visit
and then forward a written report to the ENCAMS Kitemark Advisory Panel.

Passing the Standard
Once your organisation has passed the standards required for the level of the
Kitemark, ENCAMS will provide certification and a logo to use on your stationery and
promotional materials. The Kitemark is held for two years before reassessment
is required.

Failing to Meet the Kitemark Level
If an organisation fails to meet the required standards of the Kitemark the final report
will highlight the area/s for improvement. You will have six months to make any
necessary improvements before re-submission of your application. Kitemarks can also
be awarded at a level lower than the stage applied for.
